Manga Summaries//Book 1//Chapter 6
The remodeling is finished and Tohru is returning to her grandfathers to live. She leaves instructions about house related things as well as her new address. After she leaves, the Sohma house atmosphere takes a turn for the worst.
In a flashback, Tohru remembers a game she played as a child called "Fruits Basket." Everyone would be assigned a fruit and they would change seats when their fruit was called. Tohru was picked to be the onigiri (riceball). As the game went on and on, no one called out onigiri… There was never room in a fruits basket for an onigiri.
Back at Sohma house, the atmosphere is still quite sad without Tohru. In her new home, Tohru is feeling very similar. Her cousins are rude, her aunt hires a detective to investigate her private life, and her grandpa always calls her Kyoko; however, grandpa comes to the rescue from all the evil cousins. He tells Tohru that she doesn't have to stay since he knew her dad was not one to stay where he did not want to be.
In the end, Tohru admits she wanted to stay at Sohma house when Yuki suddenly appears and saves the day. Of course, Kyo was there too and he drags her out the door. Kyo tells Tohru about how irritated he was when she left and that she could say what she felt more often. And so, hand in hand they go back home to Sohma house and the onigiri finally got her place in a fruits basket. Tohru is back for good in her new home with her new family. What is in store for the newly reunited Sohma family? Find out in the next volume of Fruits Basket!
