In her panic over Kyo's "change," Tohru rushes towards the door but gets hit from a falling board from the hole in the ceiling. Due to this, she falls into Yuki and Shigure changing them as well! After some argument, Shigure explains that it cannot be hidden any longer. The spirit of the dog from the Chinese Zodiac possesses Shigure, as Yuki is the rat, and Kyo is the cat. He also explains that there are other members of the Sohma family who are possessed by the other zodiac animals, both male and female. Being hugged by a member of the opposite sex triggers the change. During the explanation, they all change back into their human forms and Tohru is in for yet another shock.
Kyo, outraged at the fact a woman is at the house, vents his anger out on a table, which ends up injuring Tohru accidentally. To this, Yuki challenges Kyo to a fight, which is apparently, according to Shigure, a common everyday occurrence. Yuki settles things rather quickly and then checks on Tohru who realizes that she is late for school. Shigure tells Tohru on her way out that he must tell the head of the Sohma family, Akito, about the secret being revealed. Tohru understands, but Yuki thinks that Shigure is up to something.
At school, Tohru is able to wash her mud-covered uniform (from the landslide). She covers up the truth to her friends by saying that she fell. Yuki catches Tohru alone in the hall and asks if she told her friends about the secret. He then tells her about what happened the last time that someone outside the family learned of their secret and how they were able to erase people's memories. Even though sad at the thought of losing her memories, she asks Yuki to do what is needed, but to still be her friend.
Once home, Tohru finds Kyo fixing the hole in her room that he created. In his own way, he tries to apologize but is interrupted by Shigure's arrival home. He then announces the news that Akito said if Tohru could keep the secret, then she could live there. Akito also decided that Kyo must also live with Shigure. And with Akito's word being law, this happy home grew a little more interesting.
